About Therapy

Counselling may be helpful when dealing with difficult issues such as bereavement, relationship problems or addictions. It could be that we are looking for a new direction in life, that we are unhappy or that we feel stressed and just need to talk things through.

I am trained in Person-Centred Counselling which allows the client to explore their thoughts and feelings at their own pace. It is a non-directive approach with the emphasis on the therapeutic relationship between client and counsellor. The Person-Centred approach aims to be non-judgemental allowing the client to explore their world in a safe, holding environment. However, sometimes these explorations can evoke some difficult and painful emotions for the client. Counselling can therefore sometimes be very challenging but can also be very rewarding and life enhancing. Central to the Person-Centred Approach is the belief that human beings have an innate tendency to grow towards fulfilment. When the conditions of acceptance, empathy and genuineness are present within the counselling relationship, this capacity for growth can begin to flourish.

As a member of the BACP, I adhere to their Ethical Framework. One aspect of working ethically is to provide a confidential service to our clients. This means that what a client discusses with their counsellor is confidential. However, in keeping with our commitment to your well-being, there may be rare exceptions to this which we can discuss during the assessment session.

Also as part of the BACP Code of Ethics, I attend regular supervision with a qualified supervisor. This is where we as counsellors are able to reflect on our work with our clients to ensure that we are working ethically and in the best interests of our clients.
